![]() It is not a place of condemnation but a place of examination and reward. ![]() This reference we see even today at the Olympic games, where the winners stand before the judge to receive their rewards after they have competed lawfully. The reference in Romans 14:10-12 is to the bema stool of Christ. It does not mention individuals, the salvation of individuals, or books of judgment. And before him shall be gathered all nations and he shall separate them from one another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats… This judgment occurs at the end of the great tribulation and judges the nations for how they treated Israel during the tribulation. Matthew 25:31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory 32. Jesus Christ describes this judgment to his disciples in the Mount Olivet discourse during the week of his crucifixion. The judgment of nations may have led to confusion in thinking that the saved and lost will be judged in a single judgment. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and hell gave up the dead which were in them and they were judged every man according to their works. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God, and the books were opened, and another book was opened, which is the book of life and the dead were judged out of these things which were written in the books, according to their works. Revelation 20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it from whose face earth and the heaven fled way and there was found no place for them. The great white throne judgment deals with unbelievers. Third, there is a difference between the great white throne judgment and that of the judgment seat (bema) of Christ. If we judge ourselves, we can avoid chastisement. ![]() This verse is in the context of chastisement for sins when partaking in the Lord’s supper. Thus, we should judge what we do on earth to please the Lord. I Corinthians 11:31 For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. Although all believers will be with Christ forever, not all will have the same rewards. Second, as believers, we are admonished to judge ourselves. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit….9. 2 Corinthians 5:21 For he (God the Father) hath made him (Jesus Christ) to be sin for us, who knew no sin that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. That is why this is true: Romans 8:1 There is therefore no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but the Spirit….4. However, the Bible teaches a number of different judgments.įirst, for the believer, our sins are judged at the cross of Christ. This is what I was taught as a child in a liberal Protestant denomination. Although this is popular, it is not what God’s Word teaches. Many teach that there is one general judgment at the same time, with the saved going to heaven and the lost going to hell based on what they have done while on earth. So then every one of us shall give an account of himself to God. For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. ![]() Will the Lost and Saved Stand in the Same Judgment?īut why dost thou judge thy brother? Or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. ![]()
